Frisco, TX - Starting the tournament off on the right foot, with a 66-36 beat down of RL Turner, the Vikings (8-6) were unable to sustain the momentum of an early win.
Senior forward Patrick Hoffman led the Vikings with 23 points in the tournament opening win Monday morning.
The Vikings second game featured a tall, imposing McKinney Boyd team. Falling behind early 18-8 in the first quarter, the Vikings fought their way back into the game, trailing 26-25 at the half. A back and forth game the rest of the way, the Vikings failed to convert on four consecutive offensive possessions while trailing 42-40. McKinney Boyd would go on to secure the victory 49-43.
To start day two, the Vikings faced the home team Frisco Centennial in their losers bracket contest. The Vikings did not put up much of a fight, falling 62-39. Senior Michael Jones scored twelve points in the defeat.
The fourth and final game of the tournament, the Vikings squared off against another Tarrant County foe, Fort Worth Southwest High School. In a game which was never in doubt, the Vikings led by senior guard Jaden Thomas and senior guard Andrew Cao, raced to an early 15-2 lead and never looked back. The senior backcourt of Thomas and Jones paced the Vikings with 17 points a piece in the 65-37 victory.
“We have challenged our boys, especially the seniors, early in the season with a tough, demanding schedule. They are not young kids any more, they know how hard the season can be, especially when we get into our district schedule. These four games were the end of a five day stretch with nine games, which was difficult for all of us. After a disappointing loss to Boyd, and not showing up versus Centennial it was nice to finish with a win against Southwest. We will take five days off, enjoy our families over Thanksgiving and then prepare for another tough tournament in Abilene,” stated head coach Dylan Dudley.
