Vikings win senior night thriller

Fort Worth, TX - In a back and forth nail biter, the Vikings (4-6, 4-3) made one more play than the visitors from Prestonwood Christian Academy, as Jaiden Burnett raced down the sideline after catching a Cole Matsuda bomb, to tally the game winning score. The Vikings would seal the 35-31 victory as senior University of California commit Curlee Thomas forced a fumble and the Vikings recovered.

In a game featuring a lot of offense, the Vikings scored twice on the ground and twice through the air. Junior quarterback Matsuda, finished the game 11-15, 203 yards, with two touchdowns. Matsuda also ran one in from three yards out on the ground.

Matsuda would connect with senior wide receiver Tre Parks-Vinson for one of his passing scores, as well as junior wide receiver Burnett for the game winning score. Parks-Vinson finished with 113 yards receiving, while Burnett finished with five catches for 67 yards.

As he has done all season long, sophomore running back Kewan Lacy ran all over the Lions defense. Lacy finished with 142 yards rushing on 17 carries and one score.

The Vikings offense also benefited from a defensive touchdown as senior linebacker Samu Vave picked up a Lions turnover and scored.

The victory over the Lions, ensured the Vikings will be on opposite sides of the bracket as Parish in the upcoming TAPPS Division I playoffs.

With an opponent to be determined Saturday afternoon, the Vikings will now turn their attention to an upcoming state championship playoff run. The Vikings lost in last year's state championship to Parish and will attempt to return the same game.
