Fort Worth, TX - With the news reports earlier this season in which All Saints will be dropping down a classification to TAPPS 5A, the final regular season contest of the season of the Vikings brought with it an added circumstance. This would be the last time the Vikings would travel to All Saints for a regular season contest.
In front of a packed, raucous crowd senior Michael Jones would lead the Vikings on a fourth comeback which will be remembered for ages. Trailing by four points midway through the final quarter, Jones would make a three, score two breakaway layups and seal the game from the free throw line, making six free throws in the final minute to secure the 48-42 victory for the Vikings.
“Michael Jones boys and girls; I’m glad he is on our team. We talk all the time about ‘be a senior’ in our program and Michael was just that tonight. He was not going to let us lose,” head coach Dylan Dudley said.
Trailing by four, Jones went to work. After his three tied the game, senior Patrick Hoffman would add a two of his own in the post, before Jones did the rest. Jones made six consecutive free throws in the final minute to set off a blue and white celebration.
“The boys just continued to hang in the game. They are tough kids, who have been in every situation you can think of, they never blink,” Dudley continued.
Knowing this would be the last time the Vikings visit All Saints, Dudley made it a point to thank the crowd.
“Our students deserve some credit, they helped us with their energy and support. Our student crowd has been through a lot, with all that happened in the fall. But to see them come here, cheer in the right manner, I could not be more proud of our school and community. What a great night,” Dudley finished.
The Vikings will now turn their attention to the TAPPS Division I playoffs where they will square off against TCA in the area championship game. TCA defeated the Vikings 45-34 earlier this season on the road.
