Vikings take three of four in Texas Private School Classic

Frisco, TX - After opening the season with two losses the Vikings were looking to get back on track in the Texas Private School Classic, held at the Texas Star Legends Field. Over the course of the weekend, the Vikings won three of four games against other quality private schools from throughout Texas.

In game one, the Vikings beat Bishop Dunne 8-0. Isaiah Venegas threw a complete game one hit shutout. Kolson Catalano and Devon Ashcraft had two hits apiece to lead the offensive attack.

Game two the Vikings beat TACA Storm 6-4. Will Tune was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings, allowing one run. Junior Josh Leigh had two hits, including a two RBI double.

The Vikings suffered their only loss of the classic against Tyler Grace, 7-6. In a back and forth affair, Catalono knocked in two runs, Leigh and Rowe each hit a double.

The final game of the classic, the Vikings defeated Hyde Park 10-4. Ben Sanchez secured the victory on the mound, going four innings. Rowe continued his torrid start to the season, knocking four more runs, with one double. Leigh finished with two more hits, as well as three RBI.

“It was a good starting point for our inexperienced squad. Our pitching carried us which is always a good thing. We will work to clean up our play in the field as we always do. But I’m pleased with our start.” head coach Joe Weik said.

The Vikings will return to the field next weekend in the Southwest Ford Classic.
