Vikings sweep Midland Christian

Fort Worth, TX - The Vikings continued their quest for another district championship sweeping the visiting Mustangs over the weekend. The Vikings outscored Midland Christian 47-1 over the three game series. The Vikings improved to 4-0 in district play.

Game one the Vikings, powered behind four hits from senior Emmy Hornick including two hits in the first inning including a grand slam, scored 12 runs in the first inning to put the game on ice. The Vikings collected 14 hits which was plenty of support for junior pitcher Makenna Uranga, who won her first of three games of the series.

Game two Damaris Saldivar led the Vikings driving in four runs as she went 2 for 3 at the plate. Brooklyn Bennett, Lauren Cademartori, and Emily Johnston also had multiple hits for the Vikings.

Uranga once again was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 over five innings.

The final game Saturday morning was no different than the first two games of the series. The Vikings exploded for 18 runs in the first inning, running away with a 19-0 victory.

Bennett and Cademartori lead the offensive attack with four RBIs each. Johnston plated three runs of her own hitting a run-scoring double. Uranga helped herself at the plate, hitting two doubles, knocking in one run.

Uranaga threw a three inning no hitter on the mound.

During the season series, Uranga struck out 21 Mustangs hitters while allowing only one hit.

The Vikings will return to play Monday night at home, in a non-district matchup against THESA. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
