Dallas, TX - The Nolan Catholic Vikings wasted little time Friday night jumping out to a 15-0 first quarter lead and never looking back on their way to a 50-21 victory over the Friars from Bishop Lynch. The win improves the number one ranked TAPPS Division I Vikings to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Junior running back DK Smittick started the scoring for the Vikings with a 16 yard touchdown run with 4:29 remaining in the first quarter. Following an interception by Nikko Morris, senior quarterback TJ Williams would sneak one in from 1 yard out, making the score 15-0 as the first quarter came to a close.
Williams would score his second touchdown of the night on a 10 yard QB draw midway through the second quarter. Junior quarterback Cole Matsuda hit tight end Saimone Davis for a short 3 yard touchdown pass right before halftime. The Vikings would take a 29-0 lead into halftime.
On the opening kickoff of the second half, senior Jackson Reed, would take a perfectly executed reverse 91 yards to the house making the score 36-0 and the Vikings rout was on in full force.
Smittick would score his second touchdown of the night from 3 yards out increasing the Vikings lead to 43-0. Smittick would score the next Vikings touchdown as he rumbled 50 yards for his third and final touchdown of the evening.
The Vikings defense finally broke mid way through the third quarter allowing a pair of long touchdown runs and one special team touchdown. Before allowing the two scores, the Vikings defense did not allow the Friars into the red zone. Jr. TE Saimone Davis
The Vikings are off this week and will return to action October 8th for their home opener against John Paull II High School. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
