Vikings destroy JPII in home opener

Fort Worth, TX - In a game that was over before it started, the Nolan Catholic Vikings (4-2, 3-0) beat the brakes off the Cardinals from John Paul II 78-2. The Vikings scored early and often jumping out to a 29-0 lead after the first quarter. The Vikings went into the locker room at halftime leading 50-2.


The Vikings continued to build their lead scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter to lead 64-2. The Vikings added two more scores in the fourth quarter, making the final score 78-2.


The Cardinals never threatened against the Vikings scoring their only two points of the game after a bad snap out of the end zone resulting in a safety. Clearly overmatched the Cardinals never established any offensive rhythm as the Vikings defensive line, led by standouts Curlee Thomas and Kaleb James, wreaked havoc all night.


The Vikings offense finished the game with 561total yards, led by 344 yards on the ground. Senior quarterback TJ Williams led the way on the ground with 154 yards on two attempts. Both of his rushes resulted in two long touchdown runs. Junior running backs DK Smittick and Fernando Calvillo also added touchdowns.


Sophomore running back Kewan Lacy continued his strong sophomore campaign with a touchdown rush and third string quarterback, senior Jeremiah Bledsoe scored his first touchdown of the season late in the fourth quarter.


The wide receiving corps grabbed four touchdown passes from quarterbacks Williams and junior Cole Matsuda, led by junior Jaiden Burnett with two touchdown catches, senior Skyler Patterson, back from injury, grabbed on touchdown and junior tight end Saimone Davis scored for the second consecutive game.


The Vikings will be back in action next Friday at All Saints. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
