State championship bound, Vikings beat JPII in semifinals

Argyle, TX - For the first time in ten years the Vikings are headed back to the state championship match following a 2-1 victory of JPII. On a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon on the campus of Liberty Christian, the Vikings were able to push across a second half goal from Andrew Bui to secure the win.

“What a great match today, between two really good teams. We have great respect for JPII and their program. Thankfully we were able to make one more play than them to move on for a shot at the state title,” head coach Sean Eddington said.

The Vikings got on the board in the first half on a goal by senior Johnny Gonzalez. The Cardinals tied it up with a goal of their own, setting up the winning goal by Bui.

“I am proud of our boys for continuing to battle as the match continued. Our seniors have been playing extremely well the last half of the season, they deserve this success,” Eddington continued.

The Vikings will head to Round Rock, Texas to square off against The Village School from Houston. The winner will be crowned state champion.

“A great opportunity awaits us in Round Rock. I am excited to watch our boys compete one time this season in hopes of accomplishing the ultimate team goal of winning a state championship,” Eddington said.

A school send off is being planned Monday for the boys.

The state match will also be available via steam on TAPPS TV. The state championship match begins at noon.
