Grapevine, TX - On a beautiful March Wednesday night LVS was primed for an offensive explosion coming off their area championship. The Cardinals of JPII had other ideas as they were able to keep the Vikings off balance all night in route to a 1-0 victory. A late second half goal by JPII was enough to send the Vikings home disappointed.
“This one stings and will for quite a long time,” hall of fame head coach Jay Fitzgerald said. “I am always proud of the girls for their fight and toughness. They made one more play than us in the end.”
With the loss, the LVS careers of seniors Alle Steining, Beatrice Birbeck, Victoria Watson, Lily Martinez, Avery Pick, Avery Hutka, Bella Tankersley and Olivia Tankersley come to an end. There have been many more wins than losses but the playoff losses always hit the hardest.
“These seniors, as have the seniors classes before them, put a tremendous amount of effort and energy into our program. We work at this all year round, this is not a 3-4 month in season commitment for them. I will miss them all; very thankful for all their accomplishments,” Fitzpatrick said.
With the win, JPII advances to the TAPPS Division I state semifinals.
LVS ends the season with an overall record of 17-7-1.
