Vikings win regional championship, Final Four next

Plano, TX - After ending the five year curse against El Paso Cathedral in the area championship, the Vikings continued their postseason run, defeating TCA 2-0 to win the regional championship. With the victory, the Vikings advances to the TAPPS Division I Final Four, an opponent to be determined.

“What a win for our boys and the program,” head coach Sean Eddington proclaimed.

Coming off the emotional match against Cathedral, the Vikings did not let the emotional win carry over in this match. TCA has been a formidable opponent in the past, but fans in attendance could sense early on in the match this one would be different. Riding a hot offense which began late in the regular season, the Vikings jumped out to a 1-0 lead, behind a goal from senior Johnny Gonzalez.

The goal would be the only one needed as the defense held strong all night long. Andrew Bui would add an insurance goal for the Vikings, making the final score 2-0.

“Our game plan was simple; attack and be aggressive. The boys are playing with great confidence this late in the postseason. We will get back to work tomorrow and prepare for the state semifinals,” Eddington concluded.

The Vikings now await their semifinal opponent. Game details will be made available later this week.
