Mansfield, TX - As they have done throughout the season, Viking swimmers on both the boys and girls side posted their best times at the biggest meet to date. Led by a second place overall finish by the boys, athletes from both teams advanced to the state meet in San Antonio. The state meet will be held this upcoming Thursday thru Saturday, where several Viking swimmers will have the opportunity to compete for a state championship.
“It was a great day for our program, as the kids continue to improve and drop seconds off their previous best times,” head coach Lauren Black said.
The boys team led by a first place swim in the 200 M Freestyle relay, finished second overall as a team. The relay team of Charlie White, Ethan Alford, Jackson Draude and Logan Talabock have paced the boys team all season long. They will head to San Antonio with a great chance to win the state title in the relay.
Once again paced by Cora Heidemann and her first place finish in the 500 M Freestyle and a third place finish in the 200 IM, the girls finished eight overall. Heidemann continues to post impressive times in the pool when they are needed the most.
“Cora has continued to improve as the season progresses. She has worked herself into an opportunity to finish her junior season with a bang,” Black stated.
The Vikings will take a strong contingent of swimmers to the state meet as several others placed in the top 8 of their respective events ensuring state qualification.
“We are going to head to San Antonio and see what happens. The boys and girls have earned the right to finish the season at state and I can not wait to watch them give their all,” said Black.
