Fort Worth, TX - Faced with the daunting task of opening the district portion of their schedule against defending district champions Liberty Christian, the Lady Vikings bowed their neck and went to work. The Lady Vikings got the game to overtime and came out victorious, as Yarely Castillo made a layup with six seconds remaining to clinch the 50-49 overtime victory.
Lead by junior guard Odessa Ozuna’s 17 points and freshman Suli Davis’ 13 points, the Lady Vikings, overcame a dominant performance from Liberty Christian senior Jaden Fife, who led all scorers with 29.
“I’m proud of our girls for staying the course and continuing to fight,” head coach Josh Blok stated. “We could have folded early in the first half, but they found a way to hang in the game. District games are always tough and Fife is a great player, but give our girls credit, they are going to compete!”
The Lady Vikings will be back in action Tuesday night at home as they host Trinity Christian Academy. Tip off is slated for 4:30 pm.
