Athletic Department Summer Update

Dear Nolan Catholic Community,

Due to awesome opportunities that have presented themselves with new positions, business or retirement, we want to make you all aware of five coaching positions that are changing as of the 2022/2023 school year: boys’ basketball, baseball, soccer, and girls’ soccer and softball. We are bidding a fond farewell to Coach Dylan Dudley, Coach Joe Weik, Coach Sean Eddington, Coach Jay Fitzgerald and Coach Don Parham, and our prayers are with them in all their new endeavors. Two of the positions have already been filled, and we are excited to announce Coach Brett Ray as the new varsity baseball coach, and Coach Alex Mechalske as the girls' varsity soccer coach.

Coach Ray was a four-year letterman at Austin College from 1996-2000 and held all-conference honors for the American Southwest Conference East Division. He has been a part of select baseball for 23 years, including the last 13 years with the Texas Stix, helping young men reach their goals of playing at the next level whether that be college or professional baseball. He not only brings more than two decades of outstanding coaching experience to our staff, including Area, District, and Regional high school Championships, but he has also taught and is certified in Special Education and will be assisting with our Learning Support programs as Learning Specialist Coordinator. He looks forward to continuing to grow in his faith at Nolan as well as helping students become leaders and putting Christ first. He and his wife, Lyndsey, live in Fort Worth with their 16-year-old son, Jagger.

Coach Mechalske, 2008 alumni of Nolan Catholic, has been on staff with Nolan since 2016 in marketing; she also coached Nolan JV and assisted Varsity girl’s soccer (2014-2017). Additionally, Ms. Mechalske coached for the Dallas Texans, Dallas Sting Soccer Clubs and One. Soccer Training Schools. She was a four-year starter at TCU from 2008-2011 in the Mountain West Conference, four-time Academic All-MWC Team and 2010 Single-Season Assist Leader. She was also an excellent athlete during her high school years at Nolan, including Four-time All-District player, Four-time 1st All-State player, TAPPS Defender of the Year in 2007 and 2008, four-time TAPPS State Runner-up, three-time All-Tournament Team, and two-time Female Athlete of the Year. She’s a Fort Worth native, lives in Keller and is excited to be coaching girl’s soccer again at Nolan. We are actively seeking and recruiting the best fits for boy’s basketball and soccer as well as girl’s softball, and it is our goal to have these positions filled by the end of June. Thank you for your continued support, and go Vikings! Sincerely, Brian P. Gaffney Executive Director of Athletics
